All of us at NDG would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! Before the tryptophan kicks in, we’d like to welcome NDG’s newest team member, Chris Stith, to the team.

Chris joins NDG as a Senior Programmer with over 12 years of development experience, including websites for companies like Marriott, Washington Post, US Air Force and US Navy. When he’s not at work, Chris enjoys spending time with his two kids—3 and 5 years old. He also likes watching football and basketball, and is a huge Chicago Bears fan (but he secretly cheers for the Redskins).

We’re thankful to have Chris on the team and proudly welcome him to the NDG family!

Infographics are hot on the marketing scene right now. An infographic is an eye-catching graphic representation of information, trends, or statistics. Whether for real estate, healthcare, or any industry, infographics can make facts and figures much more interesting.

Lately, I’ve had the pleasure of designing a number of new infographics, including this one detailing some fun facts about our agency’s culture.

How can you make infographics work for you? First, the text in your infographic should be brief, representing the basic facts and figures you wish to convey. Second, successful infographics offer intriguing titles and perspectives about topics that draw people in. Third, effective infographics are presented in a visual style that delights and inspires.

And when it comes to building links and generating online publicity, infographics have the power to take your message viral, especially on social networks. Marketing doesn’t get any better than other people spreading your message for free, and infographics are one thing that people definitely love to share.

With consistently warmer temps, sunshine, and blue skies, the plants here are blooming, and most of us here at NDG Communications are spending our time after hours outside enjoying this wonderful weather.

From taking walks with our pets, to barbecuing with friends, and shopping for beautiful flowers and fresh produce at area markets, the fun is really just beginning here in the Washington, D.C. area. And, being so close to our nation’s capital is a major plus this time of year as so many of us enjoy seeing the cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin, in addition to visiting our bountiful area parks and museums, and even riding bikes along the National Mall.

Other NDG team favorites:

  • a nice picnic outside, complete with snacks, games, and best of all, kickball
  • golfing, fishing, and riding dirt bikes with the kids
  • going to the beach or pool
  • canoeing on the Potomac River
  • visiting wineries

What are your favorite things to do this time of year?

At NDG Communications, our love for our furry friends runs deep and with multiple animal adoptions taking place lately within the office, we decided it was the perfect time to showcase our four-legged family members!

Last week, NDG Graphic Designers Cheryl Macatangay, Laura Theobald, and I attended Ad2DC’s FUTAD seminar where four panelists led a discussion on the future of marketing, communications, and advertising, as well as the topic of increasing consumer engagement through emerging technologies.

Anthony Pappas, President of the Pappas Group, described the importance of interpreting data for creative types by juxtaposing campaigns from two huge companies—Nike and Adidas—and explaining the difference in outcome when certain data was used to reach certain demographics. In order to successfully reach the right buyers, you have to understand the data in its entirety.

But, sometimes you need to forget about the product and connect with the people, he said, adding that Nike built an online community marrying product design, celebrity, and emotion that is backed by great design and messaging.

TC Conway, Director of Innovative Marketing for the Discovery Channel, also reinforced this idea citing the Discovery Channel’s “Where’s 23” sticky notes campaign. “No one wants to be pushed or shoved” when it comes to advertising, he said. Instead, he suggests advertising in nontraditional ways that make people want to seek out information themselves.

Check out Ad2DC, the 32-and-under organization of the DC Ad Club, to learn more about this and similar upcoming events.
